Azerbaijan shoots down Nagorno Karabakh military helicopter

Azerbaijan shoots down Nagorno Karabakh military helicopter 2“I am worried about recent incidents and violations in Nagorno Karabakh; the conflict can’t be solved with a military solution,” the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, said during a Parliamentary Assembly of the NATO, after hearing about a Karabakh military helicopter being shot down by Azerbaijan’s armed forces.
The conflict in Nagorno Karabakh, the longest in the period following the fall of the Soviet Union, goes back to 1988, when the enclave, populated mainly by Armenians, decided to gain their independence from the Soviet socialist Republic of Azerbaijan. After this, Baku lost its control over Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, after a war lasting from 1991 to 1994 and costing the lives of 25,000.
Dr. Giovanni Caporaso Gottlieb, Secretary General and founder of the unrepresented United Nations (UUN), has repeatedly expressed the need to respect the right of the citizens of Nagorno Karabakh to be free and independent, and that the bloody actions of 1991-1994 should not be repeated. In the end, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a ceasefire on May 12 of this year.
It should be remembered that the Minsk Group, whose co-presidency is held by the United States, Russia and France, was instituted in 1992 to promote a negotiated solution to the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh. After the creation of the Unrepresented United Nations, the organisation immediately recognised the work performed by the Minsk Group, based however on respecting the sovereignty of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
Since the beginning of November, however, this nation has been reporting hundreds of violations of the ceasefire committed by Azerbaijan. Regarding this, Nagorno Karabakh’s Ministry of Defense stated that its military units have, for the most part, observed the ceasefire, and have taken countermeasures only in case of absolute need. The situation on the line of contact between Azerbaijan’s and Karabakh’s forces worsened when an Mi-24 helicopter of the Nagorno Karabakh air force was shot down in the eastern sector.
Through the Secretary General of the UUN, Dr. Giovanni Caporaso, the organisation calls for a return of peace along the Azerbaijan-Nagorno Karabakh Republic border, the only solution for first establishing the ceasefire, and then peace between the two nations.
