727014 urkullu2 foto610x342The Lehendakari (Head of the Basque Country), Iñigo Urkullu, assures us that during his four years of legislature the Government will invest a total of 120 million Euros to support the Basque Country’s strategy, including several actions for its internationalization. Furthermore, he said that he has confidence in removing the stigma of terrorism and recuperating the image of the Basque Country, or Euskadi, which has always been “friendly and welcoming”.
During the presentation of the strategy at the St. Sebastian Kursaal, in the presence of economic and social officials, the Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu (president of the Executive of the Basque Country) stated that the Basque Country strategy constitutes “a strategy for the country, a new economic policy open to the world and all economic, social, cultural and educational institutions and officials.
Among the future proceedings in the Basque Country strategy, which stands up for removing the stigma of terrorism, the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu emphasizes the opening of a Basque Country Government office in Singapore, and the support and advice given to Eusakadian businesses and professionals “in order to open the way in the 70 countries where the autonomous Executive is present.”
In addition, as part of the Basque Country strategy, the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu announced the creation of a “global network of contacts” with people who, even though they have been sent abroad, keep a tight link with the Basque Country or Euskadi.
In Urkullu’s opinion, the Basque Country, or Euskadi, can count on a big advantage these days because “during decades its image was linked to the terrorism of the ETA and suffered from this stigma.”
“Removing the stigma from past terrorism is essential,” the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu admits, “and as it continues to leave behind this bad image, the image of the Basque Country or Euskadi will return to what it has always been: welcoming and friendly.”
